DCSD Virtual County Art Show
Douglas County received between 100-200 submissions weekly for the juried online show, with 2-5 students being featured every week for the month of April. High school SVA students were featured 4 times :




AP Studio Art
AP Studio Art is a year-long, college-level art course in which students choose a Drawing, 2-D Art & Design, or 3-D Art & Design portfolio. Students develop a series of works that explore a personally meaningful concept, demonstrating creativity and technical mastery in a media focus. Students work independently on their objective and present their work regularly for critiques and a solo exhibition of their work in the all-school art show. Students are 11th or 12th graders. Featured are portfolios from the 4 AP students.

Art 1
AP Studio Art is an semester-long introductory course to visual art and culture. Students develop a meaningful portfolio of a wide range of assignments in various media, subject matter, and objectives. Students build visual literacy skills by studying works of art. Students are usually 9th graders in Art 1.
Art 2
Art 2 is an semester-long course that builds on skills and knowledge learned in Art 1 through a range of assignments designed to explore more subjects, concepts, and media. Students usually take this course in the spring semester of their 9th grade year.
Advanced Art
Advanced Art is a course designed for students who are seriously interested in pursuing art. Assignments are designed to challenge students to create accomplished works in a variety of subjects and media. Students study artworks and learn to compose artist statements, as well as participate in critiques. Students taking this year-long class are in 10th, 11th, or sometimes 12th grade.
Digital Art & Design
Digital Art is a fall semester course in which students learn how to use Photoshop, Illustrator, and digital photography. Assignments are varied from collage, illustration, animation, and graphic design. A maximum of 20 students are usually in 10th grade taking this course.
Sculpture
Sculpture is a spring semester course in which students learn to create various forms of 3-dimensional art with an emphasis on clay forms. Handbuilding, wheel throwing, as well as other non-ceramic media are explored through a range of assignments desinged around different objectives. Students usually take this course in their 10th grade year.
